Duration: 6 months (from planning to commissioning)
Scope: Modernization of the pallet lift of a production line, including hydraulics, controls, and conveyor technology
Initial Situation
The existing hydraulic pallet lift at Emmi Schweiz AG’s Emmen plant had become outdated.
The challenge: The conveying capacity was around 48 pallets per hour — the target was at least 60 pallets per hour with a 1,500 kg load capacity.
In addition, the lift needed to be integrated into the existing conveyor system and control structure.
Planning & Materials
Together with Emmi, we developed a modernization concept that combines reliability, performance, and safety:
New hydraulic unit and lift cylinders for higher operational safety
New lift control card for more precise control and faster lifting cycles
Completely new control cabinet built to current standards (incl. interfaces to the main control system)
Modernized conveyor technology and sensors at load handling devices (LAM)
New load detection system with light curtains for safe pallet handling
Revised fire protection doors (lower & upper levels) with improved drive technology and safety sensors
New position limit switches and safety systems at every level
Implementation
Dismantling of the old control system and hydraulics
Installation of the new control cabinet, hydraulic unit, and lift cylinders
Integration of new sensors, conveyor technology, and operator elements
Training for operating and maintenance personnel on-site
Result
The result: a modernized pallet lift that sustainably improved material flow at the Emmen plant.
